The Australian government on
Friday gave the green light to taking part in air strikes
against Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott said "the terrorists of Islamic
State have declared war on the world and must be stopped".
Australia also decided to send special forces to help Iraqi
forces plan operations.
Intense fighting continued Friday around the Kurdish town
of Kobane in Syria, where the Kurdish militia are trying to beat
back an ISIS offensive.
Fresh US-led air strikes were made in the provinces of
Aleppo, Raqqa and Deyr az Zor.
