Over half of pensioners in
southern Italy receive less than 1,000 euros a month in
retirement income, about 10% lower than the national average,
according to a study released Friday.
More than 800,000 retired Italian farmers receive 480 euros
or less each month in retirement income, said the study by
farmers association Coldiretti, which analyzed 2012 data from
Italian statistics bureau Istat.
This illustrates the need for higher pension payments as
well as the growing problem of a city-rural division, said the
agency.
