A 44-year-old murder convict hanged
himself in his cell, prison authorities said Friday.
Giovanni Pucci, a former addict, was serving 30 years for
murdering 40-year-old Maria Monteduro, a doctor, with a
screwdriver in April 1999 while under the influence of a
cocktail of drugs.
He had recently learned he was under investigation for drug
trafficking within the prison, and this could have driven him to
suicide, authorities said.
Pucci would have gotten out in 2021.
