The 80-euros tax bonus introduced
by the government for low income earners will have a positive
effect on consumer spending, small and medium-sized business
association Confesercenti said Tuesday.
The tax bonus, available in full to people earning up to
24,000 euros per annum and to those on unemployment benefit and,
to a lesser extent, to people earning between 24,000 and 26,000
euros a year, will generate up to 3.1 billion euros in
additional spending in 2014 and 5.1 billion euros in 2015, it
said.
Consequently, consumer spending "should return to positive
growth" in 2014, Confesercenti said.
The tax bonus was introduced by the government of Premier
Matteo Renzi with effect from May as part of a tax package aimed
at helping to revive the struggling economy as Italy struggles
to recover from its longest post-war recession.
