A magistrate in the Rome audit
court was arrested in an unfolding political corruption scandal,
police files showed Wednesday.
Vittorio Giuseppone, formerly of the Venice audit court,
allegedly received roughly half a million euros annually over
several years from the body that oversees building the lagoon
city's MOSE flood-prevention system, "acts that went against his
duties".
Giuseppone is among 35 people arrested, including the mayor
of Venice and other politicians, for an alleged scheme to funnel
bribes to political campaigns.
