Motorists will soon be able to fill
up with methane or liquid petroleum gas (Lpg) at the same
service points used for traditional motor fuel, the industry and
interior ministries announced Tuesday.
Drivers will also have access to self-service refuelling
for natural gas and Lpg under decrees signed by the Interior
Minister Angelino Alfano and the Industry Minister Federica
Guidi.
The provisions - made possible by the development of a new
multidispenser for petrol, diesel, Lpg and natural gas - follow
a revision of fire prevention regulations at methane and Lpg
refuelling points.
"The new norms will allow methane and Lpg to be more widely
used as motor fuel and so Italy to consolidate its position as a
European leader in the use of these fuels," said Guidi.
This will have "clear" advantages for pollution reduction
and the development of the 'green' automobile industry, the
minister added.
