Cinema: Giffoni Film Festival lands at Skopje

Jury of 600 children from Macedonia, Albania, Serbia, Croatia

(ANSA) - ROME - The Giffoni Film Festival landed on Thursday in the Macedonian capital of Skopje, where it will continue through Sunday.

The international film festival dedicated to children's cinema was founded in the Italian city of Giffoni Valle Piana, in the province of Salerno.

This is the third edition of "Giffoni Macedonia", with the theme of "dreaming", in all its various shades.

The festival includes 14 awards divided into three categories (Junior, Cadet, and Senior), and will host workshops and masterclasses in addition to film screenings.

The international jury is made up of 600 young people between the ages of 10-18 from Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Albania, Romania, Russia, Spain, Italy, USA, France, and Belgium.

The opening screening on Wednesday evening at the Millennium Cinema is Sergio Assisi's "A Napoli Dove Non Piove Mai" (It Never Rains in Naples).

The event will also host screenings of 10 short films made by young Macedonian filmmakers and six shorts promoted by the Croatian Film Association.

"Giffoni Macedonia" is a co-production of Djifoni M, the Macedonian Film Agency, and Giffoni Experience, and is sponsored by the Macedonian Culture Ministry, Macedonian Education Ministry, Italian Embassy in Macedonia, Cinematheque of Macedonia, Youth Cultural Centre, Macedonian National Theatre, City of Skopje and Municipality of Karpos.(ANSA).
