Daesh still serious threat says Conte

Meets president, PM, will travel to Kurdistan, Italy base

(ANSA) - Beirut, February 6 - Daesh (ISIS) remains a serious threat and merits serious attention, Premier Giuseppe Conte said in Baghdad Wednesday.
    "The Iraqi efforts to defeat Daesh have been fundamental but we must be conscious that the Daesh insurgency still represents a serious threat that requires vigilant attention and a collective effort," he told a press conference.
    "Italy is one of the main contributors: we are trying to give a hand above all in military and police training and web are also working to boost cooperation in the economic, social and cultural fields".
    Conte was speaking after meeting President Barham Salih, con Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and parliament Speaker Mohamed Al-Halbousi.
    He will now travel to Erbil where he will meet the prime minister of the Kurdistan regional government, Nechirvan Idris Barzani. Following that Conte will visit the Italian contingent working in the Prima Parthica Mission, at the Camp Singara base.
