Daesh (ISIS) remains a serious
threat and merits serious attention, Premier Giuseppe Conte said
in Baghdad Wednesday.
"The Iraqi efforts to defeat Daesh have been fundamental but
we must be conscious that the Daesh insurgency still represents
a serious threat that requires vigilant attention and a
collective effort," he told a press conference.
"Italy is one of the main contributors: we are trying to give
a hand above all in military and police training and web are
also working to boost cooperation in the economic, social and
cultural fields".
Conte was speaking after meeting President Barham Salih, con
Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and parliament Speaker Mohamed
Al-Halbousi.
He will now travel to Erbil where he will meet the prime
minister of the Kurdistan regional government, Nechirvan Idris
Barzani.
Following that Conte will visit the Italian contingent
working in the Prima Parthica Mission, at the Camp Singara base.
