F1: Alfa Romeo pick Italian Giovinazzi

No Italian drivers with regular slot since Trulli,Liuzzi in 2011

(ANSA) - Rome, September 25 - Italian Antonio Giovinazzi will race for Alfa Romeo Sauber next season, the Formula One team said on Tuesday. The 24-year-old will be in the same team as 2007 world champion Kimi Räikkönen, who is leaving Ferrari.
    He was a test driver for Sauber and replaced Pascal Wehrlein at two grands prix in 2017.
    There have not been any Italian drivers with a regular slot in Formula One since Jarno Trulli and Vitantonio Liuzzi in 2011.
    Giovinazzi, born on December 1993, was the 2015 FIA Formula 3 European Championship runner-up and raced with Prema in the 2016 International GP2 Series, again finishing runner-up with five wins and eight overall podiums. He was chosen by Ferrari as their third and reserve driver for the 2017 season. He made his Formula One Grand Prix debut for Sauber at the 2017 Australian Grand Prix, replacing Pascal Wehrlein. He also replaced Wehrlein at the following Chinese Grand Prix as Wehrlein continued his recovery
