(ANSA) - Rome, November 9 - An Algerian pair of Siamese twins joined at the abdomen and chest have been separated thanks to an extraordinary operation at Rome's Bambino Gesù pediatric hospital, sources said Thursday. The 17-month-old children underwent the surgery on October 7 and they are both well. The operation took 10 hours, with five different teams alternating for a total of 40 health personnel.
    It is the second such operation for the Vatican-owned hospital and is one of very few cases of Siamese twins being separated in Italy.
