86% child cancer survival rate in Italy

Parents' association fundraising for Intl Child Cancer Day

(ANSA) - Bologna, February 3 - Just one in 10 children survived cancer in the 1970s, compared to 86% today, an association of parents of children with cancer (AGEOP, in its Italian acronym) said Wednesday.
    Italy sees 1,600 new cancer diagnoses on underage people every year, according to Doctor Andrea Pession, a pediatrician at Policlinico Sant'Orsola Hospital.
    AGEOP has launched a fundraising campaign - to coincide with the 16th annual International Childhood Cancer Day on February 15 - to raise 20,000 euros to fund a years' stay for two families in one of the association's homes.
