Constitutional Court says respecting judicial laws

(ANSA) - Rome, December 7 - The Constitutional Court said Wednesday that it was impossible for it to hold a hearing on the legitimacy of the Italicum election law before the January 24 date that it has set. The court said holding the hearing earlier would deny the parties involved the full amount of time stipulated by law to present themselves as such and file depositions. The court added that it is "operating according to the rules of the judicial bodies". The resolution of the political crisis that started with the No vote's win in Sunday's Constitutional referendum, which prompted Premier Matteo Renzi to announce he was quitting, is complicated by the fact that the Constitutional Court must rule on the Italicum.
