Calevo chief kidnapper gets 30 years

Victim held two weeeks in basement with arms, legs bound

(ANSA) - La Spezia, January 29 - A court in the northwestern city of La Spezia on Thursday sentenced a man to 30 years in prison for masterminding the kidnapping of a businessman in 2012.
    Pierluigi Destri, 70, was found guilty of organizing the December 16, 2012 kidnapping of Andrea Calevo, who worked at his family's construction firm.
    Calevo was abducted from his home in the northwestern coastal town of Lerici and held with his legs and arms bound for two weeks in a basement before police rescued him that New Year's Eve.
    Four other men were found guilty in a separate trial in January 2014 of the kidnapping for purposes of extortion, receiving jail sentences of up to 13 years.
    A judge sentenced ringleader Davide Bandoni to 13 years behind bars, with lighter sentences for accomplices Simon Hailaj, Emiliano Shota, and Fabion Vila.
    Destri is Bandoni's uncle.
