(ANSA) - BELGRADE, FEB 28 - The EU said in a press release
today that EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement
Olivér Várhelyi will be in Serbia today to announce a €2.2
billion financial package that will allow for significant
modernization of Corridor X railway tracks.
The Corridor X railway project is a flagship investment in the
Economic and Investment Plan, connecting the region with the EU
via Croatia, Belgrade, and on to Nis, Skopje, and Greece. This
project is expected to receive an EU grant of up to €600
million. So far, €265 million has been approved for the
Belgrade-Nis fast railway, which will allow travelers to travel
between the two cities at speeds of up to 200 km/h in around 100
minutes. The remainder of the package consists of an EIB loan of
€1.1 billion and an EBRD loan of €550 million. (ANSA).
