Slovenia say Italy didn't notify border checks extension

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAY 7 - According to Slovenia's Interior Ministry, Italy did not send a formal notice informing Slovenia of its border check extension, as reported by Slovenian news agency STA Monday evening. STA recalled that Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Saturday that Italy had requested a temporary suspension of the Schengen agreement with Slovenia due to terrorism risk, according to ANSA reports.
    However, Slovenian ministry told the STA that it had not received a formal notice informing Slovenia of the extension of border checks along the Slovenian-Italian border. The current border checks will remain in place until June 18, assuming they are not extended. Italy resumed border checks in October of last year in response to the changing situation in Europe and the Middle East, as well as the increased threat of terrorism.
    Slovenia did the same along its borders with Croatia and Hungary.
    In response to the latest development, the SDS deputy group stated, "We think Italy's latest move shows a lack of trust in Slovenia's policy and effectiveness regarding illegal migration prevention, so we propose an emergency session to be convened to discuss the issue in more detail," according to STA.
