(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 07 MAG - A summer of cultural excellence: that's what the 72nd Ljubljana Festival, scheduled in the Slovenian capital from June 20 to September 3, is about to kick off.
The Festival, founded by the City of Ljubljana, was presented on Monday in Trieste. Symphonic and chamber concerts, operas and ballets performed by stellar ensembles, a new production of the musical The Bodyguard, and shows of leading Slovenian and foreign classical and pop artists will be the highlights of the Festival, which will open on June 20 with the traditional gala concert Summer Night, dedicated to the songs of Ditka Haberl, Alenka Pinterič, and Marjetka Neca Falk.
The Congress Square will host the performances of selected soloists, accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra, Big Band, and Youth Choir of Slovenian RTV under the direction of Patrik Greblo.
There will be several collaborations with Italian artists and ensembles throughout the summer, including a concert by Brazilian Minister of Culture Margareth Menezes (July 21).
Also on the calendar from July 7 to 12 is the International Art Colony, which will take place at the Križanke under the guidance of selector and painter Tomo Vran.
Many master classes will be available for young musicians under the artistic direction of Branimir Slokar. The Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by maestro Charles Dutoit, the 103rd recipient of the Royal Philharmonic Society's gold medal, will be on the stage on the Festival closing day, September 3.
