(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAY 20 - The newly elected President of
Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, officially took office today with a
solemn swearing-in ceremony held in parliament in Podgorica.
Milatovic assumes his five-year mandate, succeeding Milo
Djukanovic, a veteran of Montenegrin politics, whom he defeated
decisively in the runoff on April 2.
In his first speech in the parliament, Milatovic stated that
he aims to be the president of all Montenegrin citizens, with
his first priority being the acceleration of the country's path
towards EU integration. He also emphasized the importance of
overcoming internal divisions, strengthening state institutions,
and building a society that offers equal opportunities to all.
