(ANSA-AFP) - BERLIN, JAN 16 - German Defence Minister
Christine Lambrecht resigned on Monday after a series of gaffes
cast growing doubt on her ability to lead the country in
reviving its long-neglected armed forces amid the war in
Ukraine. "Today I asked the chancellor to dismiss me from the
office of Federal Minister of Defence," Lambrecht said in a
statement, blaming the "months-long media focus on my person"
for preventing her from making "security policy decisions in the
interest of the citizens of Germany". (ANSA-AFP).
