(ANSA) - BELGRADE, FEB 6 - The Slovenian minority in Austria,
Croatia, Hungary, and Italy will celebrate Culture Day with a
variety of events, according to the Slovenian news agency STA,
noting that the 8 February holiday is an opportunity to
celebrate Slovenian arts and culture as well as remember
Romantic poet France Preseren (1800-1849).
Slovenians in Austria will mark Culture Day in Carinthia and
Styria, with the first event taking place already on January 26
at the regional library in Graz. Slovenians in Croatia will
celebrate Preseren Day for three days, with events taking place
in Zagreb and Varazdin under the slogan Culture Unites Us. Poems
by Preseren will be read in Szentgotthárd, Hungary, as part of a
collaboration between the Slovenian Consulate and the Murska
Sobota unit of Slovenia's Education Institute, and an exhibition
of Pannonian houses typical of the area will open at the Lipa
Cultural and Information Centre.
According to STA, the minority in Italy will hold its main
Culture Day ceremony on February 12 in the center of Trieste,
celebrating different cultures, as the concert of prominent
Slovenian composers will be a collaboration of Italy's Friuli
Venezia Giulia Orchestra and Slovenian conductor Tomaz Kukovic.
Another significant event will take place at the Gorizia
Cultural Centre, where a documentary about Slovenian culture
will be screened. (ANSA).
