(ANSA) - GORIZIA, 06 NOV - In Nova Gorica (Slovenia) and Gorizia, which will be the European Capital of Culture in 2025, a heartfelt call for peace in Israel and Palestine was launched by the mayors Samo Turel and Rodolfo Ziberna. Both mayors signed a joint document today in the symbolic Transalpina Square - where the border between Italy and Slovenia runs - calling for the release of hostages, the end of warfare on both sides and recognition for every one of the right to live in Israel and Palestine regardless of where they come from.
"A powerful message comes from Go!2025: just as on this border, we have managed to mend two communities that were turning their backs on each other after pain and suffering, we call for dialogue and respect to be made concrete in Israel and Palestine," Ziberna explained.
Turel reiterated this idea: "We are the example of how we can live together, always remaining aware of our individual history and carrying out common projects in peace and cooperation." The letter was addressed to all representatives of entities and institutions that can contribute to helping Israel and Palestine: Italy's President Sergio Mattarella, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and the heads of the European Parliament, the European Commission, and the UN.
