Confartigianato Transport FVG, Austrian bans are unacceptable

'They offend the principles of EU. Government must intervene'

(ANSA) - UDINE, 13 FEB - "We consider the bans and blockades applied in Austria unacceptable, first of all, because they undermine one of the fundamental principles of the European Union: the free movement of people and goods," the regional head of haulers of Confartigianato Trasporti FVG, Stefano Adami, said in a statement. He thus commented on the rules in place in Austria that, until March 30, prevent the transit of foreign trucks over 7.5 tons along the Tauern highway on Fridays between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Saturdays between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Also in effect until March 9 is a ban on Saturday traffic between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the A 12 Inntal Highway and A 13 Brenner Highway.
"The FVG Region president, Massimiliano Fedriga, did something good when he mobilized the national government," Adami continues, "because this situation not only penalizes the trucking sector but heavily affects the entire FVG and Italian export economy." Adami points out that in addition to the blockade on the Tauern highway, "there are, at the same time, other problems on other Italian-Austrian crossings with consequent and heavy inconvenience for all national freight traffic."
