(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 08 FEB - Some Egyptian fruits and vegetables are delivered directly to the tables of central and northern European consumers, and Italian manufacturing products are destined for customers in Egypt.
These are some examples of the import and export spin-offs of the new ro-ro sea route, which, from October, will connect the port of Trieste with the port of Damietta, Egypt. The new route was presented at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, the world's biggest trade fair for fresh produce logistics, in front of foreign industry partners and operators.
The presentation follows the signing in Cairo of the Italy-Egypt bilateral agreement. Among those who attended the fair were Zeno D'Agostino, president of the Ports of Trieste and Monfalcone, who described the facilities of the port and the opportunities of the new line, Italy's ambassador to Berlin Armando Varricchio, the head of the commercial office of the Egyptian embassy in Germany Abdel Aziz Elsherif, Customs Agency director Roberto Alesse and ICE (Italian Trade Agency) president Matteo Zoppas.
