(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAY 17 - The establishment of a Register
of Damage as the first step toward an international compensation
mechanism for victims of Russian aggression in Ukraine was
announced by leaders at the Council of Europe (CoE) Summit in
Reykjavik.
This initiative has received support from 43 countries as
well as the European Union and represents an important step
toward addressing the consequences of the conflict and providing
restitution to those affected.
Albania, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic,
Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece,
Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania,
Luxembourg, Malta, the Republic of Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro,
the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal,
Romania, San Marino, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain have
all signed the Enlarged Partial Agreement on the Register
established by the Council of Europe. The European Union has
also joined, and three other countries (Andorra, Bulgaria, and
Switzerland) have indicated an interest in joining. (ANSA).
