(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAY 16 - EU's High Representative Josep
Borrell addressed the Ministerial Conference on the Roadmap to
firearms control in the Western Balkans today, emphasizing the
importance of combating illicit arms trafficking in the region.
He expressed condolences for the recent tragic shooting
incidents in Serbia and highlighted the need for collective
efforts to address small arms trafficking and its grave
consequences.
Illicit arms trafficking is "a serious threat to our peace
and stability. It is a multifaceted threat that impacts the
stability of the region, states [and] societies, and increases
the risk of terrorist attacks," Borrell said.
The weapons collection campaign launched by the Serbian
government with EU's support "shows how valuable, how important
our security cooperation is in contributing to the security of
our citizens," Borrell noted. (ANSA).
