(ANSA) - GORIZIA, 14 GEN - "We should hurry to extend the
borders of the EU to all the countries of the former Yugoslavia
and Albania": this is the appeal launched by Romano Prodi, in
Gorizia, on the sidelines of an event organized by the
University of Trieste, with the support of the Friuli Venezia
Giulia Region, which the former President of the Republic of
Slovenia, Danilo Türk, also attended.
"Let's hurry because it doesn't involve any economic problem -
he specified -; altogether, these countries represent less than
2% of the GDP of the entire Union. Political will is needed here
because speeding up would also oblige us to reform the European
institutions because we need to change the decision-making
processes. Still, the time has come for us to do it."
Prodi then spoke of the conflict in Ukraine. "It will only end
with a United States-China agreement," he said. "This is because
Europe is in the hands of the United States for its
decision-making power and the military aspect until a European
army is created."
Then, talking about the migratory issue, "unless there is unity
at the European level - said the former president of the
European Commission - we won't be able to find a proper
solution, because the Dublin agreement, which establishes that
the country where the migrants arrive is responsible for them,
is completely insane." (ANSA).
