million non-EU citizens who fled Ukraine following the Russian
invasion on February 24, 2022, enjoyed temporary protection
status in the EU," Eurostat reports. The main countries hosting
refugees were Germany (1,270,150 people; 29.5% of the EU total),
Poland (951,560; 22.1%), and the Czech Republic (381,190; 8.9%).
