(ANSA) - PRISTINA, 13 APR - Kosovo and Albania have signed an
agreement allowing the free movement of citizens of the two
countries living in border areas.
As Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti reported, representatives
of the respective interior ministries signed the agreement in
Tirana. As a result, as of today, more than 200,000 citizens of
Kosovo and Albania living in areas up to 30 km from the land
border between the two countries have the right to freely cross
the border and stay in the border area for social, family,
cultural, or other reasons. This agreement, Kurti underlined in
a Facebook post, "strengthens and deepens cooperation between
the two countries and facilitates the interaction of citizens on
both sides of the border. A new joint meeting of the governments
of Pristina and Tirana is scheduled for tomorrow in Djakovica,
Kosovo. The vast majority of the population of Kosovo (about 2
million) - proclaimed independent from Serbia in February 2008 -
comprises Albanians and Muslims.
The Serb minority, about 120,000 people, is concentrated in the
country's north, and several enclaves are scattered throughout
the territory. (ANSA).
