(ANSA) - VILNIUS, 02 GEN - Estonia has begun its rotating
presidency of the Baltic Assembly, Foreign Ministry in Tallinn
announced in a press release.
According to Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu, the
Estonian chairmanship will focus on the situation in Ukraine,
regional security and energy security.
"Last year Russia's aggression against Ukraine fundamentally
changed the situation in our region and throughout Europe. For
this reason - Reinsalu said - our priority will be to ensure the
security of Estonia and the entire region, secure energy
supplies in these times of crisis, and continue active support
for Ukraine until victory is achieved."
Formed in 1990, the Baltic Assembly is a consultative
institution for the promotion of political cooperation on a
regional level in which representatives of the governments of
Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia participate. The chairmanship
rotates annually between representatives of the three states.
