(ANSA) - TIRANA, 17 FEB - The new NATO air base in Kuçovë,
about 80 kilometers south of Tirana, will be inaugurated in
March. The 350-hectare base was built in the 1950s, then was
virtually abandoned; it has been modernized through a
51-million-euro project and should be used as a refueling and
ammunition storage center. Albania has been a candidate country
for membership in the European Union since 2014 and has been a
member of the Atlantic Alliance since 2009. (ANSA).
