(ANSA) - BELGRADE, DEC 7 - "A new European constitutional architecture is absolutely necessary today in this season of the new enlargements, from Ukraine to the Balkans to other countries," said the President of Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Giulio Tremonti today.
Tremonti spoke at the NATO Defence College Foundation's 'Balkan and Black Sea Perspectives 2023,' a high-level conference organised in collaboration with the NATO Public Diplomacy Division, the NDC, and Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo. The conference focused on the current situation and scenarios in the Balkans and the Black Sea in the context of ongoing conflicts, with a particular emphasis on crisis prevention and peace consolidation, the European integration process, and the fight against disinformation and illegal trafficking. The NATO Defence College Foundation, headquartered in Rome, is the Alliance's only recognised think tank and one of the most authoritative non-governmental organisations dealing with issues affecting the Alliance's 31 allies and 40 partners.
The foundation was founded in 2011 and is led by Ambassador Alessandro Minuto-Rizzo, a long-time diplomat and former NATO Deputy Secretary General. South Eastern Europe is a region "crucial for European security" and the Balkan and Black Sea region "should become part of the Euro-Atlantic community and the invasion of Ukraine has given a new sense of urgency," Minuto-Rizzo noted.
