(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 17 - A reported 7.4 billion development-for-stopping migration deal signed by the EU with Egypt Sunday is the best way to stem migrant flows from the North African country to Europe, Premier Giorgia Meloni said after a summit in Cairo Sunday.
Meloni said the initiative between the EU and Egypt was "the best way to tackle the migratory flow, and we appreciate Egypt's efforts in this direction.
"We aspire to work together more than before to help states of origin an those of transit with investments and assistance to prevent illegal immigration, to help these States to tackle migrant trafficking." The premier then recalled Italy's Mattei Plan and said "Italy has a plan with African States which is the process of realisation and amounts to five billion euros, and Egypt is part of it".
She said "in Egypt we will sign various important bilateral accords that are part of this plan, and migration will be one of the themes of the G7".
She said "we are working to launch an international alliance for the fight against human traffickers". (ANSA).
