(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 13 - A L'Aquila court on Wednesday rejected the extradition to Israel of a 37-year-old Palestinian held in Terni prison on suspicion of international terrorism including planning carbomb attacks on Jewish settlements in the West Bank, saying he risked being tortured if sent there.
The L'Aquila appeals court said the man, Anan Yaeesh, "if extradited to the state of Israel may be subjected to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, or in any case acts that constitute a violation of his human rights." It also said he did not need to be extradited as he is charged in Italy with the same crimes Tel Aviv wants to try him for.
Pro-Palestinian demonstrators have been protesting against the possible extradition for weeks. (ANSA).
