(ANSA) - Brussels, January 8 - The European Commission on Tuesday called on member states to allow 49 migrants stranded on the Sea watch and Sea Eye rescue ships for over two weeks to land "without further delay".
It said it was continuing contacts with member states and "some states have expressed the will to contribute to this joint effort".
Some migrants aboard the Sea Watch were Monday reported to have stopped eating.
Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has squashed calls from the other deputy premier, Labour and Industry Minister Luigi Di Maio, to take women and children from the two German NGO boats, which are currently off Malta.
