Unemployment steady at 11.4% in August (2)

(ANSA) - Rome, September 30 - Italy's unemployment rate was steady in August at 11.4% with 2.9 million people looking for woirk, Istat said Friday. The employment rate was also steady at 57.3% and the rate of inactivity steady at 35.2%, the statistics agency said. Italy's youth unemployment rate fell 0.4% to 38.8% between July and August, Istat said. The employment rate among 15-to-24-year-olds was steady at 16.0%, the statistics agency said. Italy's employment rate was 0.1% up in August after falling 0.3% in July, Istat said. In year-on-year terms employment was 0.7% up, or 162,000. The monthly rise for those on steady contracts was 0.3% (45,000) and 1.7% on an annual basis (253,000).
