Palestine wants protection from settlers

Jewish extremists torched Christian Orthodox, Muslim sites

(ANSA) - Rome, March 4 - The Palestinian foreign ministry calls on the Vatican and on the international community to protect Christian and Muslim sites in the Holy Land, the Palestinian embassy said in a statement Wednesday.
The ministry condemned two attacks last month by Jewish settlers who torched a Greek Orthodox seminary in Jerusalem and vandalized and set fire to a mosque in the village of Al Jaba'ah, near Bethlehem.
"The ministry condemns these continued aggressions, which take place before the eyes of the Israeli government in the presence of its occupation forces, which guarantee the protection of extremist settlers," the statement said.
"We call on the Holy See, the international community, the United Nations and the Security Council...to take responsibility and to put an end to settler attacks against our people, especially in east Jerusalem".
