(ANSA) - Islamabad, December 17 - The horrific attack by a commando of Taliban extremists that killed 132 children and up to nine teachers at a military school in Peshawar was "our September 11," said the headline on the front page Wednesday of the Express Tribune daily newspaper in Islamabad.
While Pakistan observed the first of three days of mourning decreed by the national government, the newspaper said that Tuesday's attack threatened to destroy the future of Pakistan, by destroying "our sons and daughters" and referred to the terror attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001.
"The people of Peshawar are not aliens to sorrow and mourning," said the newspaper. "But never has this city lived through something of such magnitude in the 2500 years of its history," said the newspaper.
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawas Sharif arrived Tuesday in Peshawar to coordinate a response plan and reportedly has lifted a ban on the death penalty in Pakistan, in cases of terrorism.
