(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 13 - President of the Italian Bishops' Conference and papal envoy for Ukraine Cardinal Matteo Zuppi is to meet with the Chinese government's special representative for Eurasian affairs, Li Hui, during the course of his three-day mission to Beijing, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.
"On the Ukrainian issue, China remains committed to promoting peace and talks, and is willing to work with all parties to continue to play a constructive role in promoting the easing and cooling of the situation," said spokeswoman Nao Ning.
The foreign ministry has not released other details of the visit that comes on the heels of missions to Kyiv and Moscow in June and to Washington DC in July to identify initiatives that might open up paths to peace in Ukraine.
Beijing has claimed 'neutrality' on the war triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, refraining from condemning Moscow and providing diplomatic cover.
Its official position is to achieve a ceasefire and a political solution to the crisis. (ANSA).
