(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 6 - President of the Italian Bishops' Conference (Cei) and Archbishop of Bologna Cardinal Matteo Zuppi was received by Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelensky on Tuesday during a two-day peace mission to Kyiv, according to the Cei's house organ Avvenire.
Zuppi and Zelensky allegedly discussed key points necessary for stable and concrete dialogue.
The meeting was said to have been very cordial.
On Monday the Holy See announced that Zuppi had left on mission to the Ukrainian capital as "envoy of the Holy Father Francis" in order to listen in depth to the Ukrainian authorities about possible ways to achieve a just peace and support gestures of humanity that will help ease tensions".
The announcement came after Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said on May 20 that Pope Francis had entrusted Cardinal Zuppi with leading a mission, in agreement with the Secretariat of State, that might "contribute to an easing of tensions in the Ukraine conflict, in the hope that this might initiate paths of peace, a hope never abandoned by the Holy Father".
