(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 7 - Pope Francis on Sunday encouraged faithful gathered in St Peter's Square for the Regina Coeli meditation and blessing to never lose sight of where they are going and to always remember that Heaven is their home.
Reflecting on the day's Gospel reading from John 14: 1-12, the Pope recalled how in his last discourse before his death Jesus showed his disciples the way by using "the familiar image of home, a place of relationships and intimacy".
"In the Father's house,' he says to his friends and to each one of us, 'there is room for you, you are welcome," continued Francis.
The Pope urged Catholics to not lose sight of the goal, "even if today we run the risk of forgetting it, of forgetting the ultimate questions, the important ones: where are we going? Where do we walk towards? What is it worth living for?" Without these questions, Francis said that "we only live for the present", whereas "our homeland is Heaven".
During the prayer that followed the meditation, Pope Francis renewed his prayer for "the martyred Ukraine".
"May the leaders of nations listen to the desire of the people who suffer and want peace," he concluded. (ANSA).
