(ANSA) - Rome, June 26 - The Vatican said Wednesday Pope Francis had "seen with immense sadness, the image of the father and his daughter who drowned in the Rio Grande while they were trying to cross the border between Mexico and the United States".
It said "the Pope is deeply pained by their deaths, he is praying for them and for all the migrants who have lost their lives trying to flee war and poverty".
The announcement was made, answering a question, by Holy See Press Office Interim Director Alessandro Gisotti.
