Pope urges respect for God at Mass

Scolds distraction, talking

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Vatican City, November 8 - Pope Francis at his general audience Wednesday, where he began a new cycle of catechism teaching on the Mass, chastised those who talk or are distracted during Mass as a sign of disrespect for God's presence at the altar.
"God is there with us, present, but often we go there to look at things, chatting amongst ourselves while the priest celebrates the Eucharist, but we aren't celebrating with him," Pope Francis said.
"If the president or some very important world figure came here, surely we'd all be there and we'd greet them, but think about when you go to Mass, God is there and you're distracted, you're turned around," he said.
"It's God who is there, understand? Don't forget it".
