(ANSA) - Vatican City, August 22 - Humanity is ever more in
need of compassion, Pope Francis said Monday in a message to
participants in the 67th National Liturgical Week running August
22-25 in the town of Gubbio.
Penitents who are reconciled with God after confessing
their sins and receiving absolution should be encouraged to
reconcile with others and to show mercy to those in need, the
pope said.
"The sacrament of confession (is) not only a door to
re-enter (the Church) after distancing oneself, but also a
threshold that is open to... a humanity that is ever more in
need of compassion," Francis said.
