Francis preaches on harmony at S. Marta

'Early Christians all gave so that no one would be in need'

(ANSA) - Vatican City, March 5 - The "harmony" that characterised the life of early Christians is not to be confused with the "negotiated tranquillity" that often "conceals conflicts and internal divisions", Pope Francis said on Tuesday.
True harmony "has a very strong relationship with money.
Money is the enemy of harmony, money is selfish," the pope told faithful gathered for Mass at the Santa Marta guesthouse. "For this reason the sign (of harmony) is that each person gave so no-one would be in need," he added. Indeed, the early Christian community could be distinguished by its "one heart, one spirit, no poor, goods that are distributed according to need", the pope said.
