(ANSA) - Vatican City, March 10 - The so-called Vatileaks 2 trial into the leaking of classified Holy See documents to two investigative reporters resumes at the weekend.
An evidentiary hearing is set to take place behind closed doors Saturday in the Holy See. The court will decide which parts of the evidence will be heard at trial. The five defendants will take the stand Monday and Tuesday. Journalists Emiliano Fittipaldi and Gianluigi Nuzzi are charged with spreading classified information, while Monsignor Lucio Vallejo Balda, PR expert Francesca Chaouqui, and Balda's former assistant Nicola Maio are accused of criminal association and conspiracy to leak classified documents.
Nuzzi and Fittipaldi authored best-selling books The Way of the Cross and Avarice, documenting alleged Vatican waste and mismanagement and lavish spending by clergymen Vallejo has said he gave Nuzzi a password to a Vatican archive under pressure from Chaouqui, while the latter puts all the blame for leaking the documents on the prelate.
