(ANSA) - Rome, January 15 - Pope Francis visited a care home for the elderly on Friday, the @Giubileo_va Twitter account of the Jubilee of Mercy's official website announced on Friday.
"Pope Francis is at the moment paying a private visit to a care home," read the post, along with three photos of the pope at the home. The visit did not feature in the pope's official schedule.
"This unexpected visit took everyone by surprise and made us all understand how important Pope Francis's words are against throwaway culture and the great value elderly people and grandparents possess in the Church and in society," said the Jubilee site. The pope was accompanied by Jubilee chief Msgr Rino Fisichella, the president of the Pontifical Council for New Evangelisation.
