(ANSA) - Rome, October 28 - The president of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) said Tuesday that Pope Francis has condemned attacks on Israel's right to exist as a form of anti-Semitism.
"The pope told us that attacking Jews is anti-Semitism, but a deliberate attack against the State of Israel is also anti-Semitism," Ronald Lauder told a press conference after a private 30-minute meeting with the Catholic pontiff earlier in the day.
"Francis added that one can disagree with this or that (Israeli) government, but the State of Israel has the right to exist in prosperity and peace," Lauder said.
