(ANSA) - Vatican City, August 5 - Pope Francis said Wednesday that Catholics who remarry after getting divorced are not excommunicated from the Church and should not be treated as such. "People who have started a new union after the end of their marriage are absolutely not excommunicated and they absolutely should not be treated as such," the pope said in his first general audience after taking a summer break from the weekly gatherings in July.
