God console persecuted Christians, tweets pope

(ANSA) - Vatican City, May 22 - Pope Francis on Friday asked the Lord, in a tweet, to "send the Holy Spirit and give consolation and strength to persecuted Christians." The tweet, on the eve of a prayer vigil for today's martyrs organised by the Italian bishops' conference (CEI), carried the special hashtag #free2pray. Francis has been vocal since his election two years ago in calling on the international community to do more to protect Christians worldwide and specially in the Middle East. The pope's nine-language Twitter account, @Pontifex, recently passed the 20-million-follower mark.
