(ANSA) - Vatican City, May 12 - Pope Francis said Tuesday that the actions of the powerful, including how they helped the poor and hungry, will be eventually judged by God. "Do all that you can, because everyone must eat," Francis said during Mass at the opening of Caritas International's general assembly. He added that it was also crucial to protect the environment so it can continue to produce food for the world.
"The planet has food for everyone, but the desire to share with everyone is lacking," added Francis.
"Set the table for all, and ask that there is a table for all".
He praised Caritas, which holds its AGM every four years, for its work among the poor and suffering, saying its members "see Jesus in every person".
More than 300 delegates from around the world are involved in the meeting that concludes on Sunday.
Francis said that the Catholic Church must also represent charity in the world, reaching out to the poor and suffering "to renew what occurred in the early days of the Church".
